But it is so insanely slow paced that i can't even get trough the bartender level. If movement speed was 2x faster, i might not have gotten bored with it this fast.. It looked to be OK with some comic-like art, it is OK i guess, (lunar sale 1/10 the $) but I think this was designed with a console controller in mind. Movement is nyeuh using a keyboard. recommended only if you have some sort of twin-stick controller on PC. I decided quickly to move on to a more robust character management game such as Dungeon Siege 1.(which I also purchased during a holiday sale, like a dollar. just go play this instead.). First of all I should mention that I am huge fan of the original two games and therefore have waited many years to finally get a new installment. Needless to say that when this game got announced and successfully funded I was extremely hyped.However with the presentation of the gameplay style my first concerns developed because of how different it was from the original games. The gameplay is also one of my main points of criticism. It includes basically all of the features of the original games and that is something that I highly appreciate. But on the other hand the game included a new tactical pause with special abilities for each of the characters. Both of which are not a bad idea but the execution is a bit off if you decide to combine both elements. The special abilities feel like from a Moba game wich is suiting for the isometric view and with only one character they work completely fine. But if you have to play more than one character at the same time it gets a bit problematic. Some abilites just don´t really work with the tactical pause. Because of this you have switch between the real time and the pause feature more often that planned just because some characters didn´t do what you ordered them to do. This sadly makes the gameplay serviceable at best. But to be fair the gameplay was not the greates either in the original games. So you can get over this issue. Everything else regarding the original games is absolutely spot on. The puzzles are just as challenging as in the previous games with many simular approaches. The graphics and the many cutscenes absolutely nailed what made the originals so great. To be fair in one or two scenes the cel shading looks a bit off but this rarely happens. The main characters and their chemistry together are still just as rememberable as in the previous games. The new voice actors also do a good job sounding like them but on occasion the delivery is a bit off putting. The story also feels like the original games thanks to the involvement of the original writer. This of course leads to some a bit cheesy sounding lines but i dont see this as a negative point because the original games were just like this. Overall i really enjoyed the story that even included multiple endings just like the originals. It seemed somewhat basic because of its purpose to introduce this old series once again but it still included some good twists, environments and atmospheric moments thanks to its characters and designs. In general I enjoyed my time with Fear Effect Sedna however I can totaly see why a lot of people didn´t seem to like it this much. If you are not a fan of the original games this game just doesnt offer enough in the gameplay. You already have to like the series to enjoy this game to its full potential. If you do I highly recommend this game just to see these characters back together. The developers also have shown with many references and classic moments that they are huge fans of the games. And as a fan myself I just have to appreciate the work they have done.So as a fan of the series totally check this game out and even if you cant get over the gameplay problems there is a remake of the first game on the way. Buying this game will ensure that we will see the Fear Effect series again in its full glory and even just for this purpose I would definetly give this game a go.. I wanted to love this game. I really really did. The second I heard it was coming to Steam I had the date in my diary, eager to play it. I didn't even mind the game style had changed from the original two games; it was Fear Effect, and that made me happy. Unfortunately it's a game riddled with issues. I've onlyplayed for 4 hours and already the flaws are glaringly obvious. The isometric viewpoint is fixed, which wouldn't be an issue so much if the level design was clear, meaning half the time it's trial and error as to what is a walkway or door. I found myself backtracking and searching areas repeatedly just to work out where the game wanted me to go. The AI is very basic, with enemies just standing around discovered bodies, staring into space until returning to their fixed patrol routes as if nothing had happened. I tried the tactical mode only to have my allies get stuck on walls or doorframes until I took manual control again, which made the option cumbersome and far easier to solo most levels. And some of the dialogue comes as non sequiturs. The animated sequences between levels are pretty though, capturing the style of the original games with their two tone cell shaded styles. And the puzzles are pretty fun, involving observational skills rather than find one clue and move on. There's a great sense of accomplishment of getting things right first time. Unfortunately when compared to current isometric stealth games, this one falls terribly short. In fact, I'm not sure it reaches a great standard amongst any stealth / tactical games out there. If this wasn't Fear Effect, I suspect it would go largely ignored. But goddamn I wanted it to be good. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't written this review in the hope it will get an update to fix it, because it's clear the creators are as big a fan of the series as those who bought the game.. I'm a big fan of the original games, I refused to believe this game was as bad as the reviews say, but...WOWThe original games (especially the first one) are cult classics, this mobile game (it is a mobile game) is like spitting in their name...and about the story, didnt see much, but the lesbian stuff written by a horny 14 years old was too much, even in 2001, the relationshipt between Hana and Rain in Fear Effect 2 was considered immature, but this...I mean, seriously, this game was released in 2018, and lesbians in video games are still portrayed like this?Anyway, hoping the remake of Fear Effect 1 is treated with more respect than this.. I've waited for this game for some time and I'm not disappointed! It sure is different from the FE 1 and 2, but it has its own style. Fear Effect Sedna gives you an opportunity to play the way you like it, sneaking through the levels or using a tactical mode to shoot your opponents in the face with guns and unique abilities. I do recommend this game for its diversity and interesting story it has to offer.
